Daughter Album Art

Background

Daughter, an up and coming folk artist, needed a graphic designer to create limited addition album art and pack-aging for her album, The Wild Youth. With digital media dominating the market, Daughter needed innovative packaging that would convince consumers to pick up and purchase a CD in a brick and mortar store.

Solution

The interactive album art functions as a metaphor for the loss of innocence, the most prevalent theme found on The Wild Youth. The album cover features the silhouette of a small child, which alludes to youth and innocence; however, since the silhouette is finished with thermochromic paint, the child's silhouette reacts to heat. Any time heat is applied, the black silhouette fades and reveals a skull illustration beneath. Applying heat to the packaging causes the youthful silhouette to age and demonstrates the eventual loss of childlike innocence.
