Hope Again Website

Background & Previous Site

For over twenty years, Hope Again, a faith based organization, has served the poor, homeless, and disenfranchised in the Hollywood area. Their mission is to guide those trapped in poverty, crime, and substance abuse towards economic, social, and spiritual wholeness.

The organization expressed need for a website refresh that would modernize their web presence and promote community involvement.

Solution & Updated Site

Before addressing the website’s visual design, I developed wireframes to reorganize the website’s existing layout and content. I categorized content into relevant sections to allow users to access content with fewer clicks and to ensure that specific information is where users expect. I also limited the amount of content presented at one time; each page’s informational hierarchy ensures that a user’s focus is centralized, not divided between mass amounts of competing copy.

I oriented the homepage around Hope Again’s goal to increase user engagement. I introduced users to Hope Again’s mission by providing a short summary, then gave users three options to engage: learning more about the organization, volunteering time, or giving a donation.

The visual design conveys Hope Again’s credibility, transparency, and order. The design is direct and bold, free from excess stylization; emphasis rests on content. Information is distinctively sectioned onto different cards and with all main headers on the left, users can quickly locate the information they are looking for on each page. The color palette expands on Hope Again’s blue shade, emphasizing the order and relief Hope Again brings to people in need. Simple typography underlines Hope Again’s straightforward approach to quiet service and allows the content to speak for itself.

To add an air of familiarity, the photography represents sights commonplace to Los Angeles residents: people, small resident parks, and urban areas.

The site is compatible across browsers and fully responsive across devices.
